OUR MISSION

AWARE empowers North Texans to rise above the challenges of Alzheimer’s and other dementias together.

We believe no one should face this journey alone. Through local investments, community connection and trusted education, we support the best possible care today—and hope for a cure tomorrow.

OUR HISTORY

If you want something to happen, tell a Texan it can’t be done. That’s the spirit in which AWARE was founded in 1989, when Evelyn Ponder, Cyndy Hudgins, Anita Sampels, Ruth Sharp Altshuler, Nancy Nelson and Billie Leigh Rippey decided to take on Alzheimer’s and ensure families facing the disease in North Texas would have the very best care and resources—and a community to support them.

Together, we can better navigate the challenges and find hope for a future cure.

We are grateful to the visionaries who founded AWARE and set our mission in motion to support families facing Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Today, our Board of Directors carries that legacy forward with dedication and leadership.
